Sometimes you write like crazy and wonder if anyone really reads your stuff. Then there are those times when you are reading someone else’s blog and realize they have nominated you for an award. This is exactly what happened with the Bloscar award. It’s both delightful and surprising to have someone acknowledge your work. Thank you Ultimatetravel for the nomination!
What is the Bloscar award?
From the nominee’s own words, the Bloscars are a “special award by Ultimatetravel to nominate all the bloggers that have worked hard for our entertainment and fun.” The categories include best of Travellers, Poets, Artists, Photographers and many others.
These type of awards are quite popular in the blogosphere. They are as varied as there are different types of blogs. Last year I was nominated for the Awesome Blogger Award and couple more, which I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to get to write about.
As we’re now at the Bloscar award, so let’s get started with my favourite, the questions. 🙂
Bloscar award questions
1 When did you start blogging?
I originally started blogging over a decade ago. Back then, there weren’t as many tools to make blogging as easy as there are now. I had my blog for few months. Then I got busy with others things and gave it up about eight years ago. Fast forward to December 2016. I decided to relaunch my blog and as they say, the rest is history. The time felt right and here we are today.
2 Why did you start blogging?
I have always enjoyed writing. At one point I even aspired to be a historical romance writer. However, it wasn’t an easy thing to do. I had so many creative ideas for story lines, but unfortunately none of the publishers agreed. So I decided to create my own platform to serve as a creative outlet. Although I blog about travel not historical romances, I find this to be a great medium for me.
3 What is your blog about?
My blog focuses on travel. As a history major I am always attune to the historical significance of the places I visit. The older the better. I like to share my experiences, both good and bad, about the places I have visited and why they are important to me.
As much as I like to talk about particular destinations, I also write things that are related to travelling, travel blogging and travel inspiration. I have covered things like travel regrets and getting sick while away, as well as what inspires me, travel superpowers and photography.
I first picked up a camera in high school. 📸 I forget exactly how that came about, but I’m glad I did. My photography skills have improved over the years and while they are still far from where I would like them to be, I do enjoyed taking pics. 💜 Do you have any hobbies that have stuck with you over the years? 🤔 Thanks to @lovin_this_city for taking this photo of me 😀
4 What’s your favourite quotation?
There are so many good ones out there. The one I seem to keep coming back to is “if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.” I don’t have a clue who said this, but it seems like a good mantra to follow, especially when things are not always rosy. Like blogging 🙂
5 What’s your favourite holiday destination?
This is a hard question. It’s like asking a parent to name their favourite child. 🙂 I will go with a broad answer and say Europe. I feel at home there. Everything is familiar and fits just right. I’ve been to many countries in Europe and there are many I still would like to visit. Would I visit anywhere else? Absolutely!
6 Are you the type of person that meticulously researches a holiday trip or do you just go with the flow?
I think I am a blend of the two. I like to research the destinations I visit and pick out things I’d like to do and see. Having said that, I am not opposed to switching itineraries and going with the flow. Things like weather sometimes play a role in changing my plans. There are also new places that I might discover that I previously wasn’t aware of. It’s all good.
7 What means of travel do you enjoy the most?
Honestly, I don’t love flying and since I get motion/sea sickness boats are out too. I prefer to stick to terra firma when possible. I love road trips, trains and walking around as much as possible. One day I would love to do one of those Orient Express style trips. I think that would be a blast.
8 What’s your favourite colour and why?
Purple. Hands down. I am not sure why. It’s a colour that I have always been drawn to. I love the many shades of purple and if it was up to me, I would paint my whole house in those hues. Unfortunately, Alex doesn’t share my love for all things purple so we don’t live surrounded by it. Although I do sneak a purple wall every now and then. 🙂
9 What are your hobbies?
I love watching documentaries on a range of topics. Thankfully Netflix is a good source of inspiration for that. I can’t remember what my life was like before we had Netflix.
I am also an avid reader, I love food, photography and random facts.
10 What’s your favourite type of music?
Anything that has a good beat to it. I love to dance so anything that is conducive to that is perfect. Except country music. I’m not a fan.
The Bloscar award in a nutshell
Sometimes being a blogger can be a thankless job. It can be frustrating, maddening and discouraging. But at other times, it is rewarding. I love these types of nominations as they allow me to connect with my audience, discover new blogs and make new friends. I honestly don’t know if any of these awards actually have winners, but they are fun.
In theory, I would now be in a position to nominate others for this awards so they too, can answer these questions. However, my life is so crazy right now and I’m afraind that I don’t have the time to nominate others. I hope that you will oblige me in this matter. I am going to ask that if there is a blog you feel should be nominated, go and nominate them. Share your blogs. Have fun with it.
I am always grateful to all of you who make the time to read my posts, comment and share them with others. It’s always a nice encouragement to keep going. 🙂
