Sunshine Blogger Award

Like many others, I started blogging to share my stories. Quite often, you wonder if anyone really reads your blog or whether your stories even makes a difference. Then every now and then, you realize that you are a part of a supportive blogging community and your stories matter. This is exactly what happened when the lovely Gratsiela (blushrougette) nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award!

As the Sunshine Blogger Award recognises the creativity, joy and positivity of inspirational bloggers, you can’t help but feel a little giddy that someone actually thinks of you like that.  It makes it all come into perspective.

My previous nomination include the Bloscar and the Awesome Blogger Award. I must say that it’s a fun way to get to know other bloggers and let your readers know a bit about yourself. So without further ado, let’s do this.

The Sunshine Blogger Award Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
  • Answer 11 questions the blogger has asked you
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and ask them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post

The questions

What inspired you to start your blog?

When I started my blog, I was in a place where I needed something new to keep me motivated. I needed an outlet to spark some creativity and provide new inspiration. I’ve always enjoyed writing and I actually dabbled in blogging years before, so a blog seemed like a good fit.

What is the most unusual place you’ve been to and why?

To this day, I still think Iceland takes that title. I’ve been there twice now and am still hoping to go back. It’s a place that I am absolutely obsessed with and is unlike any other place I have ever been.  There are areas that seem like they belong on a different planet. Others just seem magical and breathtaking.

From waterfalls, glaciers and volcanos to beaches, geysers and geothermal pools, there is definitely something for everyone.

Bungee jumping: yes or no?

I’m actually going to go with “no” on this one. I’ve gone skydiving, zip lining and have walked on the outer edge of the CN Tower in Toronto, but I am not willing to go bungee jumping. There are just so many variables for this to go wrong.

What are three interesting facts about you?

I once wanted to be a historical romance writer. As an avid reader, I’ve gone through my share of books including romances. The historical ones always seemed to have intricate story lines, great settings and were set in different times. That appealed to me on as a reader, writer and history lover.

I am also a documentary junkie. Everything from politics, history, health, crime, culture and conspiracy theories to everything in between. I love learning and discovering new things. I used to read a lot, but since there are so many things available on Netflix and the Internet, I feel like I have access to so much information. It’s exhilarating.

I have three tattoos and two of them are travel related. The most recent one is of the world with a compass. I loved it since I came across the design on Pinterest. I actually wrote a blog about tattoos and the bloggers who have them. It was so cool to read people’s stories and learn about their motivation behind the ink.

If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I quite enjoy sleeping, but if I could do without it, I would definitely spend more time on reading and watching documentaries. I could also do more writing and creating things that I just seem to run out of time to complete now. Who knows, maybe I could even learn some new languages, which I seem to have a hard time with doing now. Maybe take up a new hobby? The possibilities are endless.

What’s your favourite travel childhood memory?

I remember spending time at a seaside resort with my mom. They had these giant waffles with tons of whipped cream and toppings. I remember walking along the pier with her and gorging on them. It always seemed that she was the fastest waffle eater in the world!

What’s your favourite pizza topping?

When I’m in Italy, I always eat the Margherita pizza with tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella. When I’m anywhere else, I add mushrooms. Many say that Margherita is the simplest and the cheapest to make pizza and often pass it over for one with fancy toppings. To me, you can hide crappy quality with a variety of additional topics that you just can’t with a simple pizza. If you can do a wicked Margherita than you’re probably outstanding at all pizzas.

Window or aisle seat?

I definitely prefer the aisle seat. More legroom and you don’t have to push through people to get in or out of your seat. You are also closer to the overhead bin and getting quicker off the plane.

Who inspires you to be better?

I’m actually inspired by the many bloggers I have met online and in real life. They all have different stories, motivations and ways of getting things done. I admire a lot of them for their work, and I’m blown away by the assistance and comradery these seemingly random strangers have offered me. It’s definitely harder to be mediocre when you have others to look up to.

What’s your favourite day in the calendar and why?

I had to think about this one, but I’ll say January 1. The madness of the holidays and New Year’s is gone and you wake up to a clean slate. There is something cathartic about it, knowing that there is a new year, new opportunities and adventures waiting to happen.

What has surprised you about yourself?

I’m amazed at all the creativity that had suddenly appeared in me. Ideas for blogs and other things are coming out of my head in a flood. I’m discovering things about myself that I didn’t know I was capable of before. It’s a nice feeling.
